Breaking self-doubt and concuring fear
Updated Oct.16.24
Have you ever felt the urge to pursue a dream? To launch a new project or finally start that business idea that’s been lingering in your mind for a while?
Maybe you’ve already taken the first steps, but somewhere along the way, doubt starts to creep in—"Can I really do this? Am I even qualified? What will others think?"
Fear is the distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined. Regardless of it’s form, there is no doubt that fear can hinder ones’ abilities to excel in ways that we are unaware of; by robbing us of our confidence and acting as a platform to display our weaknesses,
My run-ins with fear has never been met with a happy ending. Usually I am always cowering in the corner, waiting for the moments to pass by, missing any chances or opportunities to find love, success and dismissing the opportunities to birth a creation that has been marinating on my heart for years.
I always loose to fear. Respectfully, I am tired of it.
I want to love
I want to be a creator
I want to give back to this world in whatever ethical way that I can…
But why do I repeatedly fall back into the slums when fear emerges? I decided to take a more detailed look at the elements of fear and what drives it.
Understanding Fear: The brain
The brain is a complex organ that posses many functions in relation to the human body. By being the orchestrator of all activity, the brain is able to control: our thoughts, memory and speech, the movements of our limbs and the suctions of many organs. There are more than 100 billion nerve cells forming a network of activity that propels everything that we sense, think and do.
There are two different types of communications.
Conscious thought and action
automatic response
Fear is an automatic response since we don’t ( but can) make an effort to trigger it. Fear is a reaction that has to run its course.
The Body
Fear can cause an increase in your breathing and heart rate. Fear also has the ability to constrict your blood vessels and vital organs while also making your muscle tighten -which causes goosebumps.
On a molecular level, your glucose levels also has the ability to spike, preparing your body to store energy if needed.
how to overcome fear
There are many ways to combat fear, since it can be a habit to avoid anything that triggers our stressors, exposing yourself to your stressors for a set duration is by the best bet to tackle your fears.
By implementing “ workouts” such as writing down your thoughts, using humor to deflate the situation and utilizing breathing exercises, you will find much success when battling your fears.
The best product of fear is t hat everyone can relate to it, no one can run from it and therefore it should be embraced as a human experience. Fear is justifiable, we all have a reason that influences our way of thinking. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you find yourself struggling everyone and then. It’s important that with all great things, time is a currency that will have to be utilized in order to see your desired results.
